Moon Magick 101: Aligning Your Magick With the Moon
Much of the time, witches align their will and their workings with what they need in their life at the moment. This is because it’s easier to align our actions with universal flow, rather than working against the flow – which may cause resistance. This might mean intentional meditation, or spell workings, or just making life plans. The below information will help you be able to plan your work in alignment with the energies of the moon (and the earth).
Basic Moon Phases
The full moon energy is peaking when She rides high in the sky, and many feel it’s the best time to do any sort of manifestation magick.
When the moon is waning, She is getting smaller, and so the energy is also shrinking. This is the best time to work magic aligned with banishing, removing, or making anything smaller.
The sky is dark during the new moon. Some people refer to the dark moon as a separate moon phase from the new moon, where the dark moon is completely black and the “new” moon is the first sliver of moon light the following evening. Most calendars (and people) refer to the new moon as the night where the moon is completely black. In some traditions, it’s the time where you clean the altar and your working spaces of all old offerings and mess that had collected during the prior month. Some also do divination. On the new moon, it’s the best time to set intentions for the month, and a common activity is to write abundance checks.
Once the moon peeks back out and begins to grow, it is waxing. Growing. This time is used for growth magick – for anything that grows, including gardens and the amount of money in the bank.

Astrological Moon Magick
Some people align their magick with the astrological phase of moon. As the moon moves through her phases, she also moves through the astrological sections of the sky, changing every few days.
